আমরা জানি যে বুদ্ধ যখন জন্ম নেয় তখন হিন্দু ট্রেডিশনে তার আশপাশ ভরপুর ছিল। বুদ্ধ কিভাবে রাজার হাল ছেড়ে দিয়েছিল সেটি এখানে বলার প্রয়োজন নেই। যেটি বলার প্রয়োজন সেটি হলো বুদ্ধ কিভাবে বুদ্ধ হলো?

বুদ্ধ যখন সত্য খুজতে বের হয়ে পড়েছিল তখন সে বিভিন্ন মিস্টিক্সদের কাছে গমন করে সত্যকে জানা ও প্রশান্তি লাভের জন্য।


শুরুর স্তরে বুদ্ধ দুজন মিস্টিক্সদের নিকট যায় যারা ইয়োগিক মেডিটেশনে এক্সপার্ট ছিল। সে Alara Kalama নামক মিস্টিক্সের শিক্ষা আত্মস্থ লাভের পর আত্মতৃপ্তি পায়নি।

পরবর্তীতে সে Udaka Ramaputta নামক আরেক মিস্টিক্সের সাথে ইয়োগা চর্চা শুরু করে। এতে সে মেডিটেটিভ কনশাসনেসের উচ্চ স্তরে পৌছুতে সক্ষম হয়। কিন্তু এতেও সে তৃপ্তি পেতে ব্যর্থ হয়।
